How to pursue finding your purpose to promote that positive self confidence in yourself.

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, "Why am I even doing this? What's the purpose?!" Or do you ever question your happiness because you feel you have no purpose in your current situation?

For me, as a high school teacher, I find myself so often wondering if I am in the correct career field, based on those two opening questions. So, let's take a moment today to discuss "How to pursue finding your purpose to promote that positive self confidence in yourself."

First of all, I want you to know, if you've ever felt lost or unsure about the path you are on in life, well, SISTER, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Many people struggle with finding their purpose and meaning in life. In fact, I found myself just last week, while sitting among 1600 high school students and teacher leaders, if education was still my purpose in life. (Spoiler alert, becuase I am also a certified life coach who is constantly thinking how to help others, I took some of my own advice, and today I share them with you...and yes, I am right where I am called to be!)

It is so important to remember that we each have our own story that creates our own unique purpose and journey. Here are some tips today to help you discover (or re-discover) yours!

1- REFLECT ON YOUR PASSIONS AND INTERESTS

What do you enjoy doing? What are your hobbies? What topics do you find yourself constantly researching and talking about? Reflecting on your passions and interests can help you identify what you truly care about and what brings you joy.

I have also found that when working with clients, often times they feel stuck in their current situation (like a job) and simply do not know the first step in looking for something different. That is why it is important to really reflect on the things that do make you happy. Take a couple weeks to think about the passions and interests you have and make a point to write them down.

2- IDENTIFY YOUR STRENGTHS AND SKILLS

What are you good at? What skills do you possess? Identifying your strengths and skills can help you determine how you can use them to make a difference in the world. Additionally, when we take a look at our strengths, we are building that self-confidence, as well, which is helpful when pursuing our purpose!

3- CONSIDER YOUR VALUES AND BELIEFS

What do you stand for? What are your beliefs and values? Understanding your values and beliefs can help you align your purpose with what you truly believe in. I find this to be quite important when helping others find their purpose. You have your core values, and your purpose naturally syncs up with the core. I have had times throughout my life when these did not align, and long story short, I had moved away from my true purpose and found I was un-happy. You need to be true to you and who you are.

4- TRUST GOD

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

God already knows your purpose. Every purpose he has for us is designed for His Glory. I like to remember that, especially when days get me down and doubting what I feel my purpose is. Also, the best thing truly to do is to sit and listen to where God is taking you. If you sit still enough, and ask God to guide you to see what your purpose is, He will tell you. Your prayers are mighty, and His answer is mightier.

5- VOLUNTEER!

Volunteering and taking your time to help others can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment. It allows you to use your strengths and skills to make a positive impact in the world. Volunteering has also been shown to reduce stress, helps keep depression at bay, and provides mental stimulation. Volunteering doesn't have to be a long-term commitment or take huge amounts of your time. Remember that list of things you're passionate about or interested in from the beginning of this blog in tip 1? Use that list to find a volunteer experience! You just never know what opportunities will show you your true purpose!

What if you still need help or you still feel stuck? Seek guidance from a coach that specializes in helping your find your purpose and confidence (Such as The Sisterhood Coaching!) or talk to someone you view as a mentor. Listen, we all need support when trying to navigate something as big as finding purpose and meaning. Here at The Sisterhood Coaching, we are trained to help you find your strengths, your values, your passions and then turn that into positive insights into potential career paths or opportunities.

Remember, finding your purpose in life is a journey, not a destination. It takes time, reflection, prayer, and self-discovery. Never feel discouraged. As you begin to uncover your unique purpose, you will end up making a huge impact in this world! And that, my friends, is a beautiful thing!
