Why is finding the Joy in life is so important for over-all well-being.
Recently, in so many of my daily personal conversations, the idea of finding our own joy in life has been a theme. And as I have personally processed this, and made some changes in my life, I realized how my wellness wheel truly had been out of balance and that, now, after these few changes, I am feeling so much healthier and balanced. (The life coach using her own advice! haha!)
In today's blog, I wanted to share with you why finding YOUR Joy in life is so important for your over-all well being, followed with next week's blog on HOW to make positive changes to find that Joy! Finding Joy is not a fleeting moment. In fact, it is an emotion that comes from happiness, and I truly believe we CHOOSE Joy. We may not always realize at the time that while we are feeling happy, we may not be experiencing true JOY. True joy is life-changing, life-defining, and has no limits! Joy changes our physical, mental, emotional, and our spiritual well-being.
PHYSICAL benefits of JOY-
When you are experiencing joy in your life, your physical well-being benefits greatly. Research has shown that experiencing joy and happiness in your life can lower blood pressure, boost your immune system and reduce the risk of heart disease. If you have followed The Sisterhood Coaching, you know I bring up ENDORPHINS a lot! That is because endorphins, that natural chemical our bodies release after a workout, or doing something that makes us happy, or even petting a dog, well, those endorphins are natural painkillers and mood elevators! They are awesome! Feeling joy also promotes better sleep, reduces stress, increases energy, and improves that over-all physical well-being.
MENTAL benefits of JOY-
Making Joy a priority in life is essential to mental well-being. Having feelings of joy or joyful experiences will uplift your mood. Additionally, you change your mindset for the positive, thus creating feelings of contentment, as well as build resilience. The other awesome natural chemical neurotransmitter in our bodies, called dopamine, which helps to reduce anxiety and depression, improves you focus and concentration, and enhances feelings of motivation and satisfaction. Another great benefit of joy for mental well-being is having the ability to cope with life's up's and down's.
EMOTIONAL benefits of JOY-
Finding the moments that bring you true joy helps your emotional well-being by creating a sense of self-awareness. By embracing Joy, you are creating a balanced emotional state. With this, relationships are improved, empathy in increased, and feelings of overall life satisfaction goes up. You are more likely to engage in activities that align to your passions and you will feel a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
SPIRITUAL benefits of JOY-
When you make the choice to trust in God's promises, you are choosing Joy that is bigger than anything else. Romans 15:13 says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (NIV) I am often comforted by this scripture, and use it in my prayers for joy and hope. Psalm 30:5 has a line in it that says, "Joy comes in the morning"...and I always chuckle because I feel Joy comes at all hours of the day!!! (I did also just take that line a bit out of context, and there really is a lot of meaning in Psalm 30:5, but that is for another time!) When you have true Joy, spiritually, you are truly changing the attitude of the heart. And every fiber of your being will be lit up with that Joy!
Did you know that when you find joy in your life, you will inspire those around you? Your positive energy and happiness will be contagious! You will motivate others to seek their own joy! You will create a ripple effect of happiness and joy in your family and within your community. You might feel like you are an insignificant pebble, but guess what? That pebble makes many ripples in a pond, and have a great effect on it's surroundings!
Hopefully this week helped you with learning WHY Finding Joy in your Life is important. By putting Joy at the top of your priority list, you are gaining many positive benefits for your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Embrace that things that bring you happiness!
